Story Prompt #2

Hey everyone! Kinda feeling no inspiration at this time, so I’m leaning back on the second part of a series that I wanted to start. I’ve always wanted to improve my writing with story prompts but I never got the chance to (well, more like I didn’t make the time to).

Hopefully this will help some people out!

Also, this was supposed to go up yesterday, but for some reason WordPress was being stupid and glitchy and nothing was working… AND THE WHOLE POST DELETED I’M SO MAD. It took so. long. to right and now I have to write it all again… well, at least it’s up now. Yay.

Want to hear the story behind this? In my writing camp last week, taught by Hannah Jayne, author of Truly, Madly, Deadly and The Underworld Detection Agency, (who I interviewed, by the way!), she gave us a prompt. We were told to write it in any story format we wanted. Continue reading “Story Prompt #2”

April Blogging Challenge Day 29

Hey everyone! Today’s going to be my last day doing this challenge and I’d just like to thank Maggie sososo much! You’re an amazing blogger and you spread happiness and joy throughout the blogosphere 🙂

Something You’re Proud of:

I’m proud that I went to the biggest Indian music festival on North America and won third prize at the competitions! I’m also proud about my growth in music- I’ve improved immensely since moving teachers.

I’m proud that my brother is learning how to control impulses and I’m proud that he’s singing much better than me when I was his age!

I’m proud that I didn’t give up blogging when I took months-long breaks at the beginning of One in a Million and I love blogging now!

But most of all, I’m proud that I don’t give up. I’m proud that I can see the good in this world and acknowledge the genius in everyone 😀 well, I try- brownie points for that XD!

BTW, today’s the first day that school starts again after the spring break and urghhh we have to do testing and that SUCKS. Also I had to miss two days of school to go to the Cleveland competition I mentioned above, and I have SO MUCH WORK to catch up on- wish me luck! :/

What are you proud of? Do you have lots of schoolwork too?

Spring Cleaning Book Tag 2.0

Hey everyone! I’m back from my short break. I didn’t exactly notice the absence of blogging too much because I was really busy, but I spent some quality time with family, which was nice 🙂

Thanks, Bibi, for tagging me! (I am so sorry that I’m doing this, like, almost a month after you tagged me?? Sorry! And please continue tagging me :D)

Life Update + April Blogging Challenge Day 12

Hey people~ sorry I’ve sort of fallen asleep the past couple of days! I’m just really tired and def looking forward to spring break NEXT NEXT WEEK (URGH TOO FAR AWAY). *sighs dreamily*

And I’m done with overworking myself. yay?
Ok, I’m done with my pity-fest and ready to actually do stuff whoopee.. But actually I’ve been tired from my music competitions coming up as well as school workloads getting larger and violin and dance and more stuff. I probably won’t be posting until next-and-a-half-week (but I’ll still be looking at other’s blogs)

April Blogging Challenge Day 6

Three ways to win my heart:

The fangirl in me-

  1. The first thing you say to me: “You drool in your sleep.”
  2. When I say “May the odds be ever in your favor” because they’re going to take a test and they get it 😉
  3. Write me a poem about how my eyes are as green as pickled toads. Even though I have brown eyes. Even though I’ve never seen a pickled toad.

The 20 Questions Book Tag

(marhabaan)! That’s hello in Arabic, BTW. So ya guys, I know that two posts ago (whew!) I said that I would be doing this challenge in the last post. Aaand I know that I delayed and posted something else instead. That was really important though, so go check it out if you haven’t already! But now. No running from it, Aditi! So here’s my response.

Vaishnavi @Written In Stars  (who’s blog is ah-mazing, so go check it out!) tagged me to do this lovely challenge. This will reveal my innermost dark secrets about anything book-related, and I CAN’T WAIT. Curious? Interested? Inquisitive? Well, let’s get to it!

How many books are too many books in a book series?

Okay. This is hard. I’m not completely sure… but probably past seven or eight. The thing is, I’m completely into trilogies (THG), quartets, series’ with five books (PJO) and six and seven (HP), but more than that can get a bit… exhausting. However, I’m open to anything as long as it’s good! I’m currently in hearts with the Keeper series, which is set to have ten or eleven books as of now, sooooooooo…

How do you feel about cliffhangers?

Oooooh, my dear author, I love ya but cliffhangers make me want to go AAAARGH! The thing is, cliffhangers are really good for you and make me run to the library immediately. So they are good IF (and only if) the next book is in the library waiting for me (hehe). Oh, and don’t even get me started if the book is a standalone. Cliffhangers should be banned from standalones! It’s much better if the book has a nice, tidy ending.

Hardback or paperback?

Well, it depends. Sometimes when I FINALLY convince my parents to buy me the next book in a series, I probably want a hardback to show off the beauty-full cover. But paperbacks are just so great. Easy to pack and take wherever, they are always there for you to dog-ear. That’s me over there, dog-earing an already well-loved book. Also, paperbacks give me the feeling of a warm morning sitting on my couch with sunlight filtering through the curtains. ahhh.

Favourite book?

Impossible to choose! I don’t even want to list any- there are just too many to choose from and I’m positive I’ll forget, like, three fourths of my favs. But I guess I have to, so, in no particular order, here’s what’s on the top of my mind:

1) Anything Rick Riordan. He’s great, y’all. And I know I’m supposed to be all YA and that stuff, and I am, but his books will always hold a special place in my heart. *sniffs*

2) The Sun is Also a Star, by Nicola Yoon. Her books are so ahhh and nice, especially this. Can you fall in love in one day? Yes? No? READ THE BOOK T O FIND OUT MWAHAHAH.

3) Between Shades of Gray. Ya guys, this is great. I did a review on this because it’s EXTRA amaze-tastic. Read it. History+great plot+fantastic female protagonist= great book!

4) Anything Sharon Creech. Yes I know this is supposed to be just books, but she’s so goodddd. Read her books! They’re all ahhh plus even more, so just go and read her stuff.

5) Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli. This is kinda a sequel to Simon and the Homosapiens Agenda, but I surprisingly liked this more! Leah is just great.

6) Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine. My teacher read it to our class in 4th grade and it just made me cry and cry. It’s so good, though. I love it and wish the characters the best.

7) Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. It’s a sort of West African YA fantasy novel- super good, definitely worth a read.

Least favourite book?

Hmm. Actually, this one’s hard. And here’s why: if I don’t like a book, I stop. It just doesn’t feel right to judge a book that I haven’t finished, so I’ll pick from the pool that I have finished, I guess. Mockingjay, maybe? Or Sparrow Road. There’s one for sure, but I’m saving that for another question.

Love triangles, yes or no?

*slowly backs away* Not preferably, but lots of books that I read have them, so I guess I can tolerate them? But authors, please, please quit the unnecessary love triangles!

The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Ohhhhhhhh. There’s the one I couldn’t finish the other week called Tamar by Mal Peet. I don’t know, it was okay I guess… I just couldn’t bring myself to struggle through it. It has a nice idea– two different timelines, it’s just that the author didn’t execute it well, probably. I sadly have been doing this lots recently: not finishing books that I’ve started.

A book you’re currently reading?

I’m reading an OK book called Sparrow Road. One of those several books that don’t suck but will never make it to the top grossing charts. It’s meh, but I like it enough to keep going.

Last book you recommended to someone?

Oof. I’ve recommended lots of books to friends, but I’m smiling and cringing at myself to say that the last time was in the library to a random person. It was the Unwanteds series, I think.

Oldest book you’ve read?

Hmm. I mean, I don’t really read that many old books. But I’m super into my culture and religious stuff, so does it count if I read the Mahabharatha and Bhagavath Gita? They’re hecka old, so I guess it does!

Newest book you’ve read?

Well, I read Flashback by Shannon Messenger (waaayyy back in December), Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Mass (even more waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy back in Nov.) and I can’t really remember anything else?

Favourite author?

Okay, this is pretty hard! J.K. Rowling forever, Uncle Rick always, SJM happily, Sharon Creech is great, Nicola Yoon, and Ruta Sepetys maybe? (Yeah I know it’s supposed to be just one buttttttttttttttttttttt)

Buying books or borrowing books?

How do you expect me to choose one?! BOTH! I’m that one person among my friends who ALWAYS borrows everyone’s books. hehe

A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Divergent. Like heck, the first one was ok, but then the second was HORRIBLE and the third was I’m-not-gonna-finish-it bad. I don’t get all the hype about it… but lots of my friends really liked it, so maybe I just have bad taste?

Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Neither. Thing is, I’m too lazy to get a bookmark (don’t tell my dad that I finally admit it) and I just can’t bring myself to fold the pages. I end up just “remembering” the page number. Basically, I flip through the book until I find my page. Or I just get distracted and start reading from wherever 🙂

A book you can always reread?

Oh, this is easy. Any thing from Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Throne of Glass or any of the awesome YA novels that came out in the past couple of years! My heart always has room for more love from books!

Can you read while hearing music?

Well… nope. I can read while my brother yells near me, while kids are running around during lunch and break and while a plane is making lots of noise, but I love music too much and love reading way too much to do both at the same time without getting distracted. I’ve always wanted to do it, though!

One POV or multiple POVs?

I don’t really mind either as long as it works with the other elements of the story.

Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Mostly multiple sittings because I usually don’t have the time to read it in one… unless it’s really small!

And we’re done! Whew, that was long! Well guys, that’s twenty questions for ya! I tag-

veda @Colorful Smiles

and anyone else who wants to do it! I’d also like to thank Grace from This Stack Of Books  for seriously opening up my blogosphere and having an AH-MAZING blog!

P.S. Ya guys are the best!
