Glow of the Fireflies Playlist

Hey hey hey!

Today I’m sharing with you the official playlist for Glow of the Fireflies, a highly anticipated YA fantasy novel by Lindsey Duga! Here’s the synopsis:

Briony never planned to go back to the place she lost everything. Firefly Valley, nestled deep within the Smoky Mountains, is better kept in her past. After an unexplained fire gave Briony amnesia, her mother disappeared and her dad moved them to Knoxville. But now her grandmother needs a caretaker and Briony’s dad volunteers her to help. The moment she returns, her whole world shifts. She feels a magical connection to this valley, as if it’s literally part of her somehow. And when she meets a hot guy who claims he was her childhood friend but now mysteriously keeps his distance, Briony starts piecing together her missing past… and discovers her mother didn’t leave to start a new life somewhere. She’s trapped in the hidden world within the valley. Now, Briony will do whatever it takes to rescue her, even if it means standing up against dangerously powerful nature spirits. Even if it means giving up her first love.

Creating this book playlist was too easy! There are some amazing songs out there that match either the content of this book, or the aesthetic and general tone. Check out some of my favourites below and you can find my full playlist on Spotify!
1. Fireflies by Colin & Caroline
Definitely the perfect song to kick off this playlist. It’s too perfect for words in both the lyrics, style, and general sweet, nostalgic sound.
2. Sweet Tennessee by Judah & The Lion
The book takes place in Tennessee. Need I say more?
3. Upward Over the Mountain by Iron & Wine
Iron & Wine has a beautiful folksy sound and almost any of their songs would fit in well with this book,
but this one is especially appropriate.
4. Blue Ridge Mountains by Fleet Foxes
Fleet Foxes is, hands down, my favourite folk band! And with the setting of my book in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it’s pretty darn perfect! 
5. Hometown Glory by Adele
My main character, Briony, returns to her hometown for the first time in six years to find out who she used to be after suffering amnesia. Adele’s ballad represents this moment beautifully.
6. Ophelia by The Lumineers
Love, love, love The Lumineers. This particular song is one of my favourites and encapsulates my main guy character, Alder, really well.
7. I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie
Alder would follow Briony anywhere. *cue romantic sigh*
8. Legend of Ashitaka (Princess Mononoke) by Joe Hisaishi
This Studio Ghibli film was a huge inspiration to my book, so I couldn’t not include my favourite piece from the movie’s soundtrack. You can practically see all the nature spirits within an enchanted forest…so beautiful.
9. Don’t You Remember by Adele
A big theme of my book is memories and nostalgia. Everything about this song embodies Briony and
Alder’s both their current relationship and their past.
10. Fireflies by Owl City
Gosh, I adore this song! Owl City truly has a way with lyrics. And with a song titled Fireflies, this was an absolute must!
11. The Valley by The Oh Hellos
Firefly Valley is the fictional town I created in Tennessee for this novel and this fun, folksy tune really
calls back to the book’s main setting.

12. Fresh Roses by Juke Ross
Juke Ross’s melodic voice combined with sweet, gentle lyrics and tone matches a light romance plot so
well!
13. Bright by Echosmith
This song is about finding your better half and how they can make each other…shine bright (obviously).
That’s Briony and Alder for you! Plus, gotta love that acoustic guitar!
14. Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes
The message of this song is the same as GLOW OF THE FIREFLIES: you find your home in the people you love.

  1. ooh, i love creating playlists based on books– it’s SO fun. except when i had to do that for a class and it ended up taking three hours… oops. these songs are so beautiful; fleet foxes has a really nice sound. the only other book i’ve read about amnesia (besidesss the heroes of olympus series) is “the one memory of flora banks”. you should read it!

  2. Hey! Omg you’ve got great playlist compiling skills! Fireflies❤ also I love Heroes of Olympus series!!!!!!!!!! 😂Gosh I can’t put it in words. I still read Rick Riordan now- like Trials of Apollo and reread so many others because they make me feel so good! The humour is always on point and I’m pretty sure, that when I’m 30, I’ll read them with so much more nostalgia😂 I love love Nico Di Angelo and Leo valdez. What about you?

  3. Ohh.. a playlist!! I’m excited, I love listening to music!! I’m not very good at creating playlists though!!
I literally thought of fireflies by owl city– I loved that song but none of my friends did so I pretended I didn’t (I don’t do that anymore but at the time I didn’t like different opinions oops)!!
I am loving all the Adele songs and it is definitely making me want to listen to her album!! My mum doesn’t like them to be played because she find them too sad.
I really like the playlist and will absolutely have to try some of the songs out!! Judging by the playlist, I think I would like this book as well!!
    Great post!! ❤
